Blackbeard shows off his presents

In a show of power in the 6th inning, Panda and Fontenot took turns trying to hit fans in the bleachers and arcade respectively. Both were successful.

Fontenot's homer ended up being the winning run and the bullpen again saved the day with Affeldt, Romo and Wilson shutting the Dodgers down for the series win.

Something most TV viewers got a glance of was the mysterious and powerful screwball like pitch that was unleashed by Blackbeard himself Mr. Brian Wilson.

In the last pitch of the game, 3-2 count, Wilson unleashes what looked like a screwball that started up and away, and corkscrewed clockwise to end up down and in with Posey catching it BEHIND Jamey Carroll for a swinging strike 3.

At which point I put down my beer calmly and said.. "WHAT THE F* WAS THAT?!"

asked by Andrew Baggarly if he called it a screwball, Wilson answered:

"I'm not gonna label it."

Well he may not want to, but I sure do. Some ideas being thrown out are: Mr. Nasty, Gyrowheez, You're Welcome, Blackbeard's Delight, The Machine, Moses and the Terminator (a la Major League).

The other surprise last night was Lord Fontenot jacking a homer to the right corner in addition to his RBI double earlier in the game.

Fontenot: "I was wondering if all the starting pitchers were going to get hits before I was"

In fact I looked up which starting pitchers have not gotten a hit yet, and they are Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito and Matt Cain going a combined 0-12. Sanchez has 1 hit and Bumgarner has 2, now so does Fontenot.

I'll be switching gears tonight while the Giants travel to Arizona, and I'll be rooting for the Sharks in the first game of the 2011 playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings. Different team... same chant - BEAT LA! BEAT LA!

Laws of the Day

The last 4 Giant wins were comeback wins by only 1 run each.

  3. Luving the new pitch! I think it's an adaptation on his two-seam fastball. Fear the beard;)
