Group Therapy Session #1

Giants Baseball... DEPRESSION

The Giants have lost 5 straight home games and lost 7 of their last 8, including getting swept by the DODGERS... horrible! Why are the Giants so horrible all of a sudden? Lets look at the facts here.

PUNCHLESS Offense
In the last 5 games, the Giants have scored only 9 runs while giving up 25.

DOUBLE Plays
In getting swept by the dodgers we hit into 8... yes EIGHT double plays in 3 games including getting doubled up 5 times on monday's loss.

SLUMPING Starters
Giants starters have a 5.62 ERA over the past 3 games and have been all in slumps overall, Timmy only lasted 3 innings against the red sox in what was another disappointing step back for him, Cain had his 2nd bad start in a row and has still never beaten the Dodgers. And Sanchez was erratic today giving up 5 runs, 4 earned over 6 innings.

MISSED Opportunities
In the last 8 games, the Giants have gone 11 for 65 with runners in scoring position for a dismal .169 batting average. Against the Dodgers, we went 2-14 with RISP with a .142 BA

k... now with me take a deep breath... and resist killing the nearest living thing within your reach. ..

This stretch has been complete and utter frustration. First of all, NO team in the majors have any business losing 2 out of 3 to the HOUSTON ASTROS. Yes we have had some ownage over them going 7-2 against them despite their 2 latest wins, but both losses to me were unacceptable. Then we go and beat the Red Sox to keep Orange Fridays undefeated, only to drop our next 5 games. and getting SWEPT by the bums down south.

After Timmy beat Oswalt in a 3-1 duel the Giants were 39-30 and 2nd in the NL West behind the Padres. Now the Giants are in 4th place in the NL west behind the Padres, Dodgers and Rockies, 5.5 games out of 1st.

ok ok.. now that I've brought you all down lets look at what we're doing to change it...

We finally traded Bengie - yes I loved Big Money as did all of you, but it was his time to go. He hasn't really been producing at the plate like he has been the last couple years, and Posey needs an everyday role now that Renteria is back. Bengie has been traded to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Ray a relief pitcher and a player to be named later

We called up Madison Bumgarner - yes his start against the red sox was far from perfect (gave up 4 runs over 7 innings) but the kid is young and as I highlighted in my last post, he shows some promise as a #5 starter.

Rowand back in the leadoff - now this is a mixed bag as I loved torres hitting in the leadoff spot, but Rowand was the only bright spot in the Giants' lineup today going 2-3 with a home run. God knows that we need any hot hitters and Rowand heating up would be great for the lineup. Don't get me wrong I'd love to put torres back there, but he has lost his way a bit, and this might be a wake up call.

Feeling a little tiny bit better now? Yea me neither but I'm trying okay? We are 3 games above .500 and its not even the all star break yet. This 11 game road trip (Colorado, Milwaukee, Washington) is going to be a true test to the heart of this team. Losing perhaps the biggest heart of this team in Bengie Molina I hope we can come together somehow and win some games over this stretch. Good luck in Texas Big Money, we'll miss the beer truck.
