Coming off a 5-5 road trip that saw the Giants lose 3 of 4 to the Nationals most of us just wanted to see if the Giants could turn it around with some home cookin.
Boy did they ever...
NL West leading Colorado Rockies were in town up by 4 games on the Giants with their still winless Ace, Ubaldo Jimenez on the mound facing a struggling Giants' offense. The Giants couldn't beat Ubaldo this time... but how about a walk-off hit by Freddy Sanchez during the chants of "FREDDY FREDDY FREDDY..."
Or Saturday, where the Giants relied on their smallest Giant to get the win. Mike Fontenot made an amazing leaping catch that probably could have been speared by a non-hobbit sized shortstop, and then topping it off with a walk-off sac-fly to end the game. That's your third place hitter folks...
And finally Sunday, watching Ryan Vogelsong who has been in and out of the league, played in Japan for 3 years to finally make it back to the big leagues. Vogelsong was masterful pitching 5 perfect innings before giving up a hit in the 6th inning. As Vogelsong exited the field in the 7th inning he left to a thunderous standing ovation and he gave the home crowd a big league tip of the cap. Well done sir, well done.
Cody Ross did the rest, with an RBI single and a 2 run jack that was reminiscent of his NLCS homers off Halladay. The Boss is Back
And Brian Wilson and the rest of the bullpen did an excellent job all weekend. All those things contributed to the Giants FIRST sweep of the season.
As Brian Wilson referred to his beard... There's too much magic inside.
Laws of the Day
Mike Fontenot is 5 for 19 with 5 RBI's so far hitting in the 3rd spot in the lineup, not spectacular.. but the Giants are 5-1 in that span.
And it only keeps getting better...4 wins in a row baby!!!
